eteaket Tea Room

After visiting the eteaket Concept Store and smelling all the teas, going to their tea room for a taste was necessary. Located on Frederick Street, it's a good spot in the city centre to get some tea, cake, or lunch.

On this rare sunny day in Edinburgh, the inside of the tea room was completely full, but the outside tables were available, a great spot in the sun. The inside is nicely decorated, and the walls have the same blue colour you find on the eteaket packaging.

Having already tried eteaket's Blooming Marvellous and White Peach, I decided to try something completely different. The Tomatin Whisky Tea is the first barrel aged tea in Europe, a product of cooperation between eteaket and the Tomatin whisky distillery. Just from taking the lid of the teapot, the smokey smell of the whisky comes out. The smell and taste comes from suspending the tea in used whisky barrels rather than using artificial flavouring. It was a strong black tea, and the smokiness and peatiness of the whisky really come though. My tea drinking companion tried the Isle of Harris Gin Tea, made with the botanicals from the Isle of Harris gin, and this was also very delicious. The pots were £2.95, which is quite expensive, especially on a student budget, but these are speciality teas after all.

Instead of cake, we both had lunch, and I tried the brie, pesto and sundried tomato sandwich. The sandwich came with a side salad and coleslaw. This might not have been the best pairing with the teas, but it was still delicious and filling. The sandwich cost £7.45, which again is a little pricey on a student budget.

Overall, the eteaket Tea Room is a very cosy place to enjoy a cuppa, whether you're inside or outside. With a wide range of options - tea, cake, lunch, cocktails - it's a place to go any time of day and no matter what you fancy. It is also a great way of trying out eteaket's teas if you're looking to buy one. Unfortunately, it is a little expensive for a student, so I will probably stick to getting the teas from the store and taking them home rather than drinking them out.
