I'll start by declaring my bias towards Lovecrumbs, I have always had a soft spot for this café. But for good reasons, let me tell you why.
You'll find this cosy little café at West Port, and the large windows filled with cakes and fairy lights make this a place that is difficult to overlook. You go in for the cake, but you stay for the atmosphere.

I have visited several times before, but at this latest visit I tried the Violet Petals tea and orange blossom and pistachio cake. You can view all their teas in the website shop where you can either buy them or have a look before going in to try one.

The tea comes in a decent size mug, with the loose leaf tea in a bag over the mug. You also get a full flask of hot water for refills. This is the most genius tea-serving solution I have ever encountered. When your tea has steeped, simply take the bag out and leave it on your plate and enjoy your cuppa and cake. As soon as you are ready for your next cup, add the bag back in and pour water from the flask over it and enjoy it all over again. The tea tasted delicious, nice and floral, and always brewed for the right amount of time. The flask gives you three cups of tea, making your £2.5 last for four full cups, which is not bad at all.

Now to the cakes. Everyday you'll find a different selection of cakes, brownies and other delicious treats. After staring at a salted chocolate cake for a while, I settled for the orange blossom and pistachio cake instead. (The slice was bigger). A huge, two-layer slice with bits of pistachio did not disappoint. The cake was soft and full of flavour, and quite filling as well. A slice of a two-layer cake is £3.8, a little pricey on a student budget, but for a well deserved and tasty treat it is acceptable.

Lovecrumbs has a comfortable and homely atmosphere, where it is completely fine to sit next to a complete stranger. If you're lucky, you can grab the window seat, a prime spot for people watching or reading, but maybe a little sore on your bum after a while. The café offers free Wi-Fi, which makes it a great spot to get some work done in a relaxing space, as well as a great spot for enjoying some tea and cake with friends.
